Have you ever heard the phrase that men need to train differently just because they are men because their muscles are larger because they need to lift heavier? It’s a common misconception that Women and Men need to train differently and have distinct workouts from one other in order to see the results they both crave. This could be to bulk up, tone, or lean out. Either way, the bodies, and genders may be different but there’s no reason why the workouts can’t be the same!
Don’t get me wrong, there are important physical and physiological differences between the two sexes, such as hormones, the amount of muscle that is naturally carried and the base-level of strength.
There is a difference in how certain exercises are performed. Such as the structure of your pelvis and how loose or tight your ligaments are. Often some of these common factors are influenced by your gender. The pelvis shape that is mainly common in women tends to result in an over-arch in the lower back, says health scientist and personal trainer Claire Norgate. Dr Boutagy states that, “Women's lower testosterone levels will limit the muscle bulk they will gain. Plus, they aren't consuming enough calories and don't eat a large amount of quality protein throughout the day to build muscle that size," he says. "Lifting heavy weights will not make women look like masculine female body-builders who train every day and take steroids."
Now, After the extensive research and watching how men grow compared to women, it really got me thinking. There is no designated workout for just men as there are no designated workouts for just women. These exercises and movements are simply just workouts. They can be done at different intensity levels, and can range from short to long periods of time, but the training is the only thing that differentiates. Not the gender. So that’s how I came up with the One and Done program, I created a program that can benefit both men AND women in toning, strengthening, and building muscle all in 7 minutes. The One and Done program focuses on SIT training which is short for Sprint Interval Training (SIT) which is a subtype of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), but differs greatly in a few ways. SIT involves periods of maximum effort followed by periods of active rest. These workouts boost metabolism, increase energy, and build muscle. And just to be clear your gender has no impact on your ability to succeed. Now, I know comfortability can also play a huge part in any success story. Certain exercises can be misunderstood and overlooked either because men don’t want to do the same workout as women, or women have the fear of looking too bulky.
