How Citrus Can Help You Lose Weight

Citrus foods can be super refreshing, and awesome for any weightloss journey! They also have more benefits that aren’t commonly known, so let’s jump into it! 

Some citrus fruits you may have learned to love could range anywhere from oranges to grapefruits, to even lemons or limes!! Citrus fruits are rich in vitamins, especially vitamin C which may tremendously help strengthen your immune system while also benefiting your skin and it’s elasticity. If you want to learn more about skin elasticity, click here! Citrus fruits also have plant compounds which have various health benefits such as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Citrus fruits are always an awesome source of fiber, while also still maintaining a low calorie. While there are so many benefits to citrus fruits, let's dive into some of our favorites and what benefits they hold individually!

Oranges

Oranges are also known for their high nutrient content, such as vitamin C which can help burn belly fat. They also promote healthy skin, and also reduce the risk of several diseases. Oranges are also another fruit that can benefit appetite control due to it being a very filling fruit. Research suggests that oranges appear to be four times more filling than a croissant and twice as filling as a candy bar!

Grapefruits

Grapefruits are full of nutrients that the body needs. While also benefiting your immune system at the same time, grapefruits are prized for their high content of vitamin C which has antioxidant properties that are known to protect cells from harmful bacteria and viruses! Grapefruits are also known for promoting appetite control, due to their amount of fiber. Grapefruits may help improve heart health, by reducing the risk factors for heart disease,since the grapefruit is fairly high in potassium, adequate potassium intake is associated with reduced risk of high blood pressure!

Lemons

Lemons are commonly known to be added to water, but with or without water, they hold some pretty important properties! Lemons contain vitamin C, well they don’t have high amounts of it, you can still benefit from it! Vitamin C contained in lemons, may help reduce skin wrinkling, dry skin from aging, and damage from the sun! And if you do put your lemon in water, you are promoting self hydration, by allowing lemon to enhance the water's flavor which allows you to drink more of it! Limes

The citric acid contained in limes, may help boost your metabolism which allows you to burn more calories and store less fat. With a combination of regular physical activity, limes also benefit in appetite control. Limes are also known for helping lower blood sugar levels, since they have a low glycemic index which can help regulate how your body absorbs sugar into the bloodstream! Limes or also known for their benefit of reducing inflammation while also reducing uric acid levels!

Clementine 

Since clementines are naturally sweet, they work as a great substitute for products with added sugars, while also promoting digestive health! The vitamin C content in clementines also promotes healthy digestion. Clementines are also known for promoting eye health and are also a great way for kids to have a healthier snack, because they are sweet and small but provide a ton of nutrients while also allowing you to feel more full, for longer!
